If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people together to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea (Antoine de Saint-Exupery)
Please consider attending our Basic Discussion Leadership Workshop on Saturday, Jan. 21.
Expert discussion leaders are essential to the Great Books Shared InquiryT approach. Every Great Books discussion group needs a cadre of experienced and knowledgeable leaders to keep its discussions varied and lively.
The January 21 "basic" workshop will focus on solutions to the common problems every discussion leader has to deal with, such as the leader's responsibilities, creating discussion questions, involving everyone, ground rules for discussions, how to wrap up, etc.
The workshop is aimed at experienced and beginning leaders who want to learn and share their insights into the leading process. Interested in starting a new group? This workshop would be ideal for you and your friends. This workshop would also interest book club organizers, not affiliated with Great Books, who might want to introduce more structure into their discussions.
Readings for this workshop will include selections from the Shared Inquiry Handbook, "Cathedral" by Raymond Carver, and "The Lamp of Obedience" from John Ruskin's Seven Lamps of Architecture. Each participant will receive a copy of the Handbook. The readings by Carver and Ruskin will be distributed and should be read before the workshop.
